The Church of St Bartholomew in Capannoli, dedicated to the patron saint of the village – celebrated on 24 August – was founded as a parish church as early as the 11th century, but was rebuilt in 1398 using the materials of the old, ruined parish church. It became an abbey in 1631.<\/p>\n\n\n

The bell tower, built in 1822, has three bells made by the Florentine bell foundry Morena. The 19th century interventions completely erased the medieval structures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The geometry of the fa\u00e7ade reflects the three naves of the interior, characterised by tall massive columns supporting the vaulted roof. Above the high altar is a valuable wooden crucifix from the 17th century, while on the left is a painting depicting the Eucharist (17th-18th century).
