It boasted a church dedicated to St. Peter as early as 1260, today a ruin completely devoid of roofing but still showing stone ashlar walls and traces of decorations dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Some works such as a Crucifixion and a Deposed Christ are exhibited in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/san-miniato-the-diocesan-museum-of-sacred-art\/\">Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art<\/a> in San Miniato. Next to the ruin stands the neo-Gothic brick bell tower built in the late 19th century. The church at the far end of the village opposite the Strozzi family&#8217;s 16th-century farm villa also dates back to the late 19th century and is modelled on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/san-miniato-cathedral-of-santa-maria-assunta\/\">Cathedral of San Miniato<\/a>. It acquired the title of the ancient church of San Pietro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Balconevisi is known for a curious palio that is run every year in October: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/events\/palio-of-the-ducks-san-miniato\/\">Palio del Papero<\/a>, an exhilarating relay race of feathered animals that cannot be touched, but only cheered on by the children who lead them.
