{"id":51488,"date":"2023-11-29T11:55:54","date_gmt":"2023-11-29T10:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/attrazione\/protected-area-of-pino-laricio-anpil\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T16:49:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T14:49:38","slug":"protected-area-of-pino-laricio-anpil","status":"publish","type":"attrazione","link":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/protected-area-of-pino-laricio-anpil\/","title":{"rendered":"Buti, Protected Area of Pino Laricio &#8211; ANPIL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Protected Area of the &#8220;Stazione Relitta di Pino Laricio&#8221;<\/strong> in the municipality of Buti extends over more than 200 hectares on the eastern slopes of Mount Pisano, bordered to the north by Mount Cucco and to the south by the Tanali stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local Protected Area of interest (A.N.P.I.L.) was established to safeguard the biotope of the &#8220;pino laricio,&#8221; one of the most imposing pine species, which can reach heights of up to 50 meters. The <strong>pino laricio<\/strong> is found in the Mediterranean region, but only in specific areas such as the Monti Pisani, Calabria, the Etna region in Sicily, and Corsica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pino laricio itself is divided into numerous subspecies, and the one found in Buti holds high value as a surviving species from glacial eras. The unique microclimate of the area, cool and humid, has allowed these specimens to thrive even in the epochs following glaciations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access to the protected area is from the Caccialupi locality, traversing a steep stretch of the area after a half-hour journey. Pino laricio specimens grow surrounded by vegetation predominantly composed of maritime pine, chestnut, oak, laurel, acacia, and service tree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The collaboration between several municipalities, the Province of Pisa, and the Tuscany Region has led to the creation of the <strong>Educational Park of Monte Cucco<\/strong> within the A.N.P.I.L. The area features an ancient slate quarry once used for roofing, a forest of naturalistic value, and wetlands where the Eurasian blackbird likely nests, with the presence of various amphibian species being hypothesized.
