Various elements contribute to making it interesting: its age, its remarkable height, the presence of the complete set of brackets that once supported the wooden &#8216;sporto&#8217;, and its use as a bell tower.<\/p>\n<p>It can be dated back to the middle of the 12th century, with the addition of corner brick pillars around the 17th century. The tower, with a trapezoidal plan, is about <strong>27 metres high<\/strong> and has a Verrucana stone wall structure.<\/p>\n<p>It has a clock on the fa\u00e7ade, while at the top there are two bronze bells that are still working. It was built for military purposes, as a control tower for the road leading to the castle of Vicopisano.
