{"id":21971,"date":"2021-03-26T14:50:22","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T13:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/?post_type=attrazione&#038;p=21971"},"modified":"2023-10-02T12:22:06","modified_gmt":"2023-10-02T10:22:06","slug":"terricciola-sanctuary-madonna-di-monterosso","status":"publish","type":"attrazione","link":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/terricciola-sanctuary-madonna-di-monterosso\/","title":{"rendered":"Terricciola | Sanctuary Madonna di Monterosso"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the road from Terricciola to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/territory\/chianni\/\"><strong>Chianni<\/strong> <\/a>we find the <strong>Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception<\/strong>, also known as the &#8216;<strong>Madonna di Monterosso<\/strong>&#8216;, a place of popular devotion.<\/p>\n<p>Its current appearance is the result of an 18th-century renovation that modified the pre-existing place of worship called &#8220;Castum Vetere&#8221; where the ancient church of &#8220;Castelvecchio&#8221; stood.<\/p>\n<p>The exterior shows an <strong>elegant portico<\/strong>, partly tampered with by careless restoration work, on which the coat of arms of Terricciola stands out, divided in half between the Pisan cross and the Florentine lily.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>interior<\/strong>, with single nave and barrel-vaulted ceiling, is striking for the refinement of the decorations carried out after the tragic earthquake of 1846. The 19th century <strong>frescoes<\/strong> in the dome depict the Immaculate Conception.
