{"id":10531,"date":"2019-06-29T18:29:24","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T16:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/?post_type=attrazione&#038;p=10531"},"modified":"2024-03-07T21:30:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-07T20:30:18","slug":"volterra-cathedral","status":"publish","type":"attrazione","link":"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/volterra-cathedral\/","title":{"rendered":"Volterra | Cathedral of Santa Maria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Cathedral<\/strong> was built around 1120 on a pre-existing church dedicated to Santa Maria destroyed by a violent earthquake. <strong>The fa\u00e7ade in Pisa Romanesque style<\/strong> dates back to the 13th century, when the church was enlarged and adorned probably by <strong>Nicola Pisano<\/strong> who worked on the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.terredipisa.it\/en\/attrazione\/baptistry-volterra\/\"><strong>Baptistery<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>interior<\/strong> has a Latin cross plan with three naves divided by 22 granite columns and walls painted in black and white stripes.
