The collection of the Museum of the Writing reconstructs, with original finds and reproductions from national archaeological museums, the stages of the history of writing and the evolution of the supports on which it has been preserved: stone, clay, papyrus, wax tablets and parchment, up to today’s technological supports.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The museum, being designed mostly for children, offers workshops that allow them to learn about the use of writing in daily life, from ancient times to the present day. In the workshops, young apprentices will be able to use the tools on display and, through play, transform themselves into scribes, scribes and stonecutters. The educational path on the history of signs, writings and alphabets is accompanied by specific workshops that delve into Egyptian and Etruscan writing, the medieval scriptorium, printing with the press and rock paintings.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

History of Numbers<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In the Museum there is also a section dedicated to the History of Numbers where the evolution of ancient numerations is reconstructed. The visitor to the Museum will be able to learn about ancient numbers, the various calculation rules and then put them into practice by participating in logical-mathematical games. The display is always done in an educational manner, in order to make the history of numbers more fascinating and easy to learn.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Measurement of Time<\/span><\/h2>\n

In the section on the Measurement of Time you will learn how ancient civilizations measured the passing of hours. Controlling the flow of time has always been a need of man who, initially, used his own shadow as an instrument for measuring time, and then moved on to monumental obelisks, the sundial and the powdered hourglass.<\/span><\/p>\n

The museum, in San Miniato Basso, is part of the Museum System of San Miniato.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
