“Walking through Palaia”: free guided tours in the heart of Valdera
The summer appointment with “Walking through Palaia” is back, the program of free guided tours promoted by the municipal Tourist Office and Terre di Pisa. A special opportunity for tourists and local visitors to discover the history, myths, and artistic beauties of one of the most fascinating medieval villages in the province of Pisa.
A journey through Tuscany’s history, art, and panoramas
The cultural walks are led by expert guides in Italian and English, winding through the medieval alleys and treasures of the village. The itinerary touches upon the main points of interest in the historic center, including the splendid Church of Sant’Andrea, a treasure chest of sacred art, and the frescoes of the Town Hall. The walk, lasting about two hours, ends at the highest point of the village, the ancient site of the Rocca of Palaia, which offers a 360-degree panoramic view over the hills of Valdera.
Calendar, schedule, and meeting point
The guided tours take place every Tuesday and Saturday morning, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The meeting point for participants is set at the Tourist Office inside the Town Hall at Piazza della Repubblica 56, where it is recommended to arrive a few minutes in advance.
How to participate: info and booking
Participation is free, but places are limited to a maximum of 15 people to ensure the quality of the experience. Booking is therefore highly recommended. To reserve a spot, you can call 0587 621437, write to turismo@comune.palaia.pi.it, or consult the portal palaiatoscana.it.
What to do in Palaia after the tour: trekking and food & wine
The visit is the ideal starting point to explore the Terre di Pisa. The surroundings offer a rich network of trails for trekking and mountain biking, with routes towards the ghost villages of Toiano and Villa Saletta. Those who prefer relaxation can instead opt for a Chianti wine tasting in local cellars or a guided truffle hunting excursion.
