The Battle of San Romano took place on 1 June 1432 between the rival cities of Florence and Siena. Despite the clear superiority of the Sienese troops, the Florentines, commanded by Niccolò da Tolentino, defeated them after a bloody clash. In 1438, Paolo Uccello produced three large panels to narrate the event, which are preserved in the Uffizi in Florence, the National Gallery in London and the Louvre Museum in Paris.

590 years after the Battle of San Romano, the municipality of Montopoli has decided to celebrate the anniversary with a month of events

On Thursday 9 June at 9.15 p.m. in the Salone Mediceo of the convent of San Romano, there will be an eagerly awaited speech by the director of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, Eike Schmidt, with an in-depth historical and artistic analysis of Paolo Uccello’s masterpiece.

The second edition of the Battle of Flavours will be held on 18 and 19 June, while the closing event will be the Lectio Magistralis of Professor Franco Cardini on 29 June.
