Palio del Carretto | Latignano di Cascina

The Festival and the Palio del Carretto are back at the festival grounds in Latignano, a village on the outskirts of Cascina, for two weekends featuring dishes made with duck and tripe, and much more besides.

From 28 to 30 August, food stalls will be open for the festival, accompanied by live music from bands.

The Palio del Carretto takes place on 5 and 6 September: the three districts – Aquila, Drago and Leone – will parade the evening before through the village streets to Piazza della Chiesa, where, following the church service, the carts and participants in the Palio race will be blessed.

The village is characterised by a central core and houses scattered across the surrounding countryside, along the SS 67 bis Arnaccio. The area was once characterised by ‘islets’ rising from marshes, swamps and canals that stretched from the Era river valley to the sea. Traces of the Roman-era centuriation system are still visible.
