Exhibition and Visit to the Museum of Agriculture | Montefoscoli, Palaia

The Museo Della Civiltà Contadina di Montefoscoli organises, as it does every summer, the rural civilisation festival. Appointment on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July from 6 p.m. in a setting of alleys, stairways, and breathtaking views. Shows for adults and children, live music, dancing and dinner in the streets between the castle and the farm with the flavours of local cuisine.

The museum, set up in the farm premises of the Vaccà-Berlinghieri palace, allows visitors to take a journey through rural civilisation from the end of the 18th century to just a few decades ago, retracing the simplicity of agricultural manners, customs and traditions that still retain the charm of the man-work-nature relationship. In the basement, 16 rooms have been reconstructed, including an oil mill, a cellar, a grain store, a laundry, a forge for metalworking, a carpenter’s workshop and a coppaio. More than 1,500 tools of various sizes are preserved, including ancient ploughs. It is interesting to visit the escape tunnel that served as an underground connection to the castle in the highest part of the village.
