The Cream Puff Festival is held in August for the patron feast of San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence) and it is the result of an authentic passion on the part of the pastry chefs of Orentano.
In 1987, Orentano became the home of the “Dolcione“: indeed, local pastry chefs created famous monuments reproduced based on sweet ingredients that attract gluttons from every part.
Orentano, moreover, boasts a remarkable confectionery tradition: in the post-war period many confectioners from Orentano (where there were about twenty pastry shops in the main street alone) decided to seek their fortune in Rome, where they opened premises which later became mainstays in the sector. In other parts of Italy, people from Orentano opened restaurants and pizzerias.
This year the Festival is dedicated to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci. On 18th August the giant cake made of cream puffs is parading on the main street. Sizes: 12 meters long, 4 meter large, 6 meters high, reproducing three of his main inventions.
