For the construction of the villa the Grand Duke Ferdinando I Medici availed himself of the contribution of Bernardo Buontalenti, an architect active at the grand-ducal court and already present in the area because of the hydraulic works of the nearby Lake of Bientina (padule).
The villa presents a simple structure of rural use, according to the prototype already used in the Villa Medicea of Poggio a Caiano.
The interior has the same sobriety of the exterior: terracotta floors, exposed wooden ceilings and large stone fireplaces on the ground floor. On the back extends the vast park integrated with the wood around and the pretty little church of Santa Cristina.
The villa can be visited externally, while the interior is accessible only on special occasions.
